A 10, 15 and 20 light design for the same home in Georgetown, Texas
How many landscape lights does a home need? There is no universal number. The best plan depends on the architecture, trees, walkways and the views you want to enjoy after dark. To show how fixture placement changes a property, we designed the same home at three levels: 10, 15 and 20 lights. Each stage adds five fixtures to the one before it.
10 lights create the foundation
The first ten lights focus on the house. Carefully placed uplights reveal key architectural features and give the entry a warm, welcoming appearance. This is a focused design that lets the home stand out without flooding the entire yard with light.

15 lights add depth to the landscape
The next five fixtures extend the composition beyond the facade. Tree and landscape lighting create layers in the view, so the house feels connected to its setting. The additional light also balances brighter architectural elements with the darker areas around them.

20 lights complete the wider view
The final five fixtures bring attention to darker foreground areas with controlled, comfortable light. Architecture and landscape now read as one cohesive nighttime design. The goal is a richer view across the property while keeping glare and visible light sources in check.

Is 20 lights better than 10?
Only if those extra fixtures solve a design need. A smaller home may look excellent with ten lights; a property with mature trees, long walks or several outdoor living areas may need more. Placement, beam spread, brightness and glare control matter as much as fixture count. These images illustrate a design progression, not a standard package or a promise that every home needs twenty lights. Delta’s sample lighting packages are a separate starting point. A custom plan is built around the property.
At Delta Outdoor Lighting, we start with what you want to see and how you use your property. Then we build a lighting plan around the home, landscape and arrival experience. More lights isn’t the goal. Better lighting is.
